- David Walter Gowing
PRESTON - David Walter Gowing, 384 Middle St., Preston, died suddenly last night at the Moose Lodge, Galt. He was 66.
Mr. Gowing was born in Listowel and came to Preston in 1933 from Neepawa, Man. He was employed for 33 years at Clare Brothers, Ltd. He was a former owner of the City Cab taxi company here from 1954-1962. A charter member of the Loyal Order of Moose from 1931, he was deputy grand of northern Moose legion and fellowship degree. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion 126, and a former executive of Preston's boys hockey association. He was a member of the men's Baraca class at King St. Baptist Church and was affiliated with the Baptist church.
Surviving are his wife the former Alice M. Currie; five sons, Walter, Vernon, Ronald and Lloyd, all of Preston, and Dr. James Gowing of St. John's, Nfld., one brother, Theodore, of Minneclose, Man.; one sister, Mrs. George (Grace) Whiteman, Neepawa, Man.; 11 grandchildren. The body is at Barthel-Stager Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements are to be announced.
