  DOUGLAS ERIC MERKEL September 1, 1930 - October 28, 2009 Passed away peacefully, with his family by his side, after a very courageous struggle with cancer. Beloved husband of the late Joan Hazel (Laurence), happily married for 47 years. Lovingly remembered by his children, Joanne (Susie), Doug, Cathy, Rick, John, Rosie; grandchildren Corey, Jeremy, Jennifer, Nashira, Shannon, Ariel, Jeffrey, Brandon, Brian, Tammy, Brittany, Samantha, Jamie, and Grace; great-grandchildren Dylan, Austin, Shawn, Brooklyn, Chloe, Kyla, Courtney, and Alyssa; sisters, Marjorie and Sally Jane, and brother Jim. A Memorial Service will be held at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo at 2: 00 p.m. on Sunday, November 1, 2009, with Rev. Bruce Sweet officiating.
