Notes |
- TUSCH, Joseph Anthony
Passed away peacefully, at Chartwell Elmira long term care residence, on October 8, in his 99th year. Beloved father of Michael and his wife Lila, and Patti. He will be missed by his three granddaughters, Amie Weber (Alex), Melissa Kelterborn (Scott), and Courtney Miller (Jon). Treasured great-grandfather of Loghan, Jaxon, Bennett, Weston and Brinley. Fondly remembered by his sisters, Julia Ofner (Fritz) and Anne Rice (Bob) and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his wife, Ella (2003), with whom he enjoyed 60 years of marriage. Also predeceased by his parents, Jacob and Marie, sister, Mary, and great-granddaughter, Harper Ella. Joe was born in Kalinov, Poland and immigrated to Canada, with his family in 1927. He served proudly in the Canadian army for five years during the Second World War; while he was stationed in Newfoundland, in 1943 he met and married Ella. They loved family gatherings, travelling, theatre, and watching British comedies. Joe had a long career as an accountant with Canadian Blower and Forge and Revenue Canada. His love of learning led him to pursue a Bachelor's degree in Economics, at the age of 54 and a Master's degree in German literature at 66. He loved classical music, Shakespeare, poetry, learning languages, and reading. In his later years, Joe especially enjoyed visits with family, Sunday breakfasts at Coras, a hot cup of tea, honey crullers and everything chocolate! Joe was a man of integrity and honesty. He taught his children to be honest and reliable and always to keep their word. He was thoughtful, always keeping flowers on the dining room table for Ella. When Ella developed Alzheimer's, Joe spent the last three years of her life, caring for her at home. After her death in 2003, he was able to continue to live independently in his home until 2016. Thank you to Dr. Norman Bodkin, Dr. Doris Winfield, the compassionate and caring staff of Chartwell Elmira, and special friends Judy, Arlene and Margaret from Home Instead Senior Care, Tammy and Sandra. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 10th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Henry Walser Funeral Home, Frederick Street, Kitchener. Parish prayers will be offered at 8: 30 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will take place at St. Francis RC Church, 49 Blueridge Avenue, Kitchener on Wednesday, October 11 at 11: 00 a.m., with Fr. Sudie MacDonald, CR presiding. A reception will follow immediately in the church hall. Interment at Parklawn Cemetery, Cambridge (Preston).
