- Mrs. A. W. Eltherington
PRESTON, Oct. 6 - Ailing 10 days, Agnes Jane Hunter, wife of Arthur W. Eltherington, Preston's assessor and collector, died at her home here, at two o'clock Sunday morning. The deceased had been a resident of Preston for more than 25 years, during which time she was active in community and church work. Born in Bruce County, the late Mrs. Eltherington received her early education there, and moving to Galt completed a business course at the Business College. She was in Toronto, for a short time and then moved to Regina in 1913, graduating as a nurse from the Regina hospital in 1917. In 1918 the late Mrs. Eltherington came to Preston and nursed in the Preston district, for a time, returning to the West where she was married to A. W. Eltherington on Sept. 28, 1921, in Regina. Following their marriage they came to Preston and resided here since that time. Keenly active in the work of the Victorian Order of Nurses in Preston, she held various offices and was a past president of the order. She was also a member of Preston I.O.D.E. chapter. A member of St. Paul's United Church, the late Mrs. Eltherington was active in many spheres of church work, particularly in the work of the Women's Missionary Society in which she held the office of second vice-president of the Brantford Presbyterial at the time of her death. She was also active in the work of the Sunday school in which she was superintendent for many years. She taught the Golden Rule Bible Class for some years. Surviving is her husband: a daughter, Marion Ruth, at St Michael's Hospital, Toronto: a son. Arthur Rae Eltherington and a step-son, William R Eitherington, of Preston: three sisters, Mrs. Lyle Shipley, Port Elgin: Mrs. William H. McKinnon, Kincardine: Mrs. George Babcock, Courtney. B.C., brother, John Hunter of Tiverton. Two brothers, a twin brother, George Hunter, of Shonneven, Sask. and Arthur of Manitoba, predeceased her. The late Mrs. Eltherington is resting at the Stager-Pass Ltd., Funeral Home until Tuesday, at 1 p.m., then at St. Paul's United Church for service at 2.30 p.m. Interment will be in the Preston cemetery.
