- Earl C. Shiry of 385 St Leger St. died Wednesday at K-W Hospital following a heart attack. He was 76. Born in Kitchener, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Shiry. He retired in 1963 from the maintenance department at K-W Hospital after 19 years. He had formerly worked at Kaufman's Footwear Ltd. He attended St. Timothy United Church. He served in the First World War with the 118th Battalion. He was an active hockey player in his youth and played for the Kitchener Union Jacks. He was predeceased by one brother, Kenneth. Surviving are his wife, the former Gertrude (Dolly) Lang, whom he married in 1916; one son, Robert of Kitchener; two daughters, Mrs. David (Dorothy) Ratz of Kitchener and Mrs. George (Billie) Rumney of Toronto; one brother, Lloyd of Kitchener; two sisters, Mrs. Arthur (Laura) Slumkoski of Kitchener and Mrs. George (Ellen) Verary of Hamilton; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The body will be at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home after noon Friday and where service will be conducted Saturday at 2 pm by Dr. E. E. Hallman. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery. Donations to the Kitchener Branch of the Canadian Red Cross Society will be accepted as expressions of sympathy.
