Passed away, suddenly, on Tuesday, Nov. 18, 1997, at Cambridge Memorial Hospital, Russell E. Slater, of Cambridge, at the age of 75 years. Beloved husband of Shirley; loved father of Robert, Ronald, Marilyn and her husband Brian Miller of Cambridge, Gail and her husband Brian Irvine of Cambridge and Cathy and her husband Siros Amini of Ottawa; beloved grandfather of Cameron Russell Amini of Ottawa; dear brother of Georgina Weaver of New Dundee; dear brother-in-law of Marjorie Slater of St. Jacobs. Russell is predeceased by his parents, George and Mary Ann Slater and his four brothers, Lloyd, Morley, Miles and Leonard and one sister, Frances Ankwiz. Russell was born in Northbrook, Ontario, in 1922 and lived in the Cambridge area, most of his life. He was employed by Canadian National Railway, for 37 years before his retirement in 1983. He was a veteran of the Second World War, a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion Preston Branch 126 and a member of the Bruce Trail Association. The family will receive friends at the Barthel Funeral Home, 566 Queenston Road, Cambridge, today (Thursday) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, Nov. 21, 1997, at 11 a.m., with Rev. Herb Hartig.
