    • CALDER, Harold Ross

      Ross passed away peacefully, at Cambridge Memorial Hospital, Sunday, November 1, 2015, at the remarkable age of 90 years. Ross was born March 21, 1925 in Linwood, Ontario. He was the beloved husband of the late Gladys Ruth Kurt (2006) for 60 years, and the much-loved companion of the late Mabel Ogram (2015) for the last eight years. Ross is survived by his children Dorothy (Alvin) Emmerson of Brantford, Brian (Debbie) Calder, Lorre Calder (Janis Collins), and Sandra (Greg) Fischer, all of Cambridge. He will be greatly missed by grandchildren, Matthew Emmerson, Jared (Becky) Emmerson, Michael and Mathew Claydon, and Rachel, Holly, Laura, and Eric Fischer. Ross was proud great-grandpa to Hadley, Victoria, and Madelynn. Ross also leaves his sister, Shirley MacDonald and niece Christine. He was a beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews and a number of grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Harold and Florence (Colyer) Calder and a sister, Anna May Margaret in infancy. Ross was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Cambridge, serving as resident "MacGyver" - fixing the unfixable and solving any number of mechanical problems, whenever they popped up. He was also an active member in the Ontario Steam & Antique Preservers Association (Steam Era) in Milton, Ontario serving on the Board of Directors and as president over the years. During the late 1950s and early 1960s, he and the late Ted Bowman raced a stock car in the weekly races at the former Bridgeport Speedway. Friends will be received at the Barthel Funeral Home, 566 Queenston Rd., Cambridge, on Wednesday, November 4, 2015, from 2: 00 to 4: 00 p.m. and from 7: 00 to 9: 00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 810 King St. E., Cambridge, on Thursday, November 5, 2015, at 1: 00 p.m. with Rev. Janaki Bandara officiating. Interment at Parklawn Cemetery, Cambridge.
