We give thanks for the gift of our special Husband, Dad, Grandfather and Great-grandfather, Jack who passed away, on Thursday, July 1, 2004, at the Cambridge Memorial Hospital, in his 83rd year. Beloved husband to the former Hazel Stuart who together would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Thanksgiving Day, this year, Kind and loving father to Melodie Roth and her husband Michael, Craig Owens and his wife Joanne and Garth Owens and his wife Barbara. Tender and gentle grandfather and great-grandfather to Julianne and her husband Brent Hergott, Michael Roth and his wife Fiona, Trisha and Trevor Owens, Jesse and Jaime Owens, Kaitlyn and Molly Roth and Jack Hergott. Lovingly remembered by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Douglas Stuart and his wife the late Claire, Joyce and Vern Spencer and Lorna and her husband the late Don Stuart as well as many nieces and nephews. Special lifelong friend of Austen Beech. Dad was a Veteran of the Second World War, serving in the Navy as Chief Petty Officer, aboard the HMCS Haida, which is now serving as a memorial, as it lays in Dry Dock in Hamilton. He served for many years as Executive Secretary Treasurer of the HMCS Haida Association. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 126, Preston and a faithful member of the St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Cambridge. The family will receive their friends at the Barthel Funeral Home, (566 Queenston Rd. Cambridge) on Sunday, July 4, 2004, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will take place at the St. Peter's Lutheran Church (810 King Street E., Cambridge) on Monday, July 5th at 11 a.m., with Rev. Neil Thomsen officiating. Interment to follow at the Park Lawn Cemetery.
