  Arthur J. Underwood Passes - One of Ayr's better known citizens, Arthur J. Underwood, passed away Monday evening in St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener. He was in his 73rd year. Born in Northamptonshire, England, he came to Ayr with his parents, the late Jacob Underwood and Ann Lawson, at the age of 12. Shortly after arriving here, he secured employment with the John Watson Mfg. Co., Ayr, and for 57 years was in the painting and shipping department. The Underwood family consists of two boys, Bill and Ted, both outstanding athletes in their younger days. Art followed his sons sporting careers very closely. Art, along with the late Harold Cornford, was always in attendance at ball games and other sporting events at Victoria Park, Ayr, lending a helping hand, usually at the gates. Mr. Underwood was a member of Christ Anglican Church, Ayr. Surviving are his wife, the former Adelaide White; sons, William of Ayr and Edward of Kitchener: also three grandchildren. Resting at the Wm. Kipp Funeral Home, Paris, where friends will be received this afternoon and evening (Wednesday).
