Mrs. Elizabeth Unger passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Conrad Stroh, at six o'clock Saturday evening, September 13, at the age of 82 years and 16 days. Elizabeth Schauss was born in Schoenenberg, Rheinland-Pfaltz, Bayern, Germany on August 28, 1842. In 1845 at the age of four years, she immigrated to Canada with her parents and settled in Waterloo County, Ontario and later Neustadt. She was confirmed there. At the age of 18, on April 10th 1860, she was united in marriage to Absalom Unger, a young man of that vicinity. To this union fourteen children were born, ten of whom are still living. One child died in infancy, two married daughters died in Canada, and one boy, 13 years old, died in Ohiowa, Nebraska. In 1902 she removed to Plymouth with her husband, four of the sons having already located here. On May 27, 1914, her husband passed away at the age of 81 years and was buried here. Since the death of her husband, Mrs. Unger made her home with her children. She enjoyed good health until about a year ago, and since last Christmas she gradually failed in health and became weaker until she finally passed to her reward last Saturday. "Grandma" Unger, as she was known to those who knew and loved her, was a true and faithful Christian and firmly believed in her Savior, who was her comfort through life and the hour of death. She leaves ten children to mourn her loss. They are as follows: Mrs. Lydia Widmeyer, Mrs. Katherine Binkle, Mrs. Susanna Schauss and Enoch Unger, all living in Canada; and John, Noah and Absalom Unger of this vicinity, and George Unger of Washington, Kansas, Mrs. Elizabeth Wunnenberg and Mrs. Veronica Stroh, also of this vicinity. There are four sons-in-law, four daughters-in-law, one brother, Louis, and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the home of Conrad Stroh and at 2:30 from the Ev. Friedens Church. Rev. G. Bode conducting services. The remains were laid to rest in Woodland Cemetery, Plymouth.
