- SLOTEGRAAF, John
"The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever." 1 John 2: 17 A sign has hung in the "shop" for 45 years that says, "If you want to kill time, try working it to death". John Slotegraaf not only shared this advice with others, he lived it himself. His life focused on work. He married Barb 50 years ago and immediately began working by nurturing four children, Dianne, Donna, Darlene and John Jr. His work expanded as a father-in-law to Brent (Pennings), Martin (Veenstra), Scott (Thomson) and Pam (Struyk). As a grandfather to Kendra, Breanna, Adam, Victoria, Zachary, Derek, Aaron, Julianna, Samuel, David, Ava, Nolan and Jack, he consistently worked at teaching them the value of hard work and a quiet disposition. John is survived by eleven brothers and sisters. His involvement in local Christian schools, Christian Schools International, Canadian Christian Education Foundation, Christian School Teachers Pension Plan, Canadian Christian Business Foundation, Bible League of Canada, Ontario Christian Gleaners, as an Elder in the Church, Ontario Trucking Association, High School Co-Op Programs, in Support of Minor Sports, demonstrated his work in Kingdom and earthly causes. John had a love for the Lord and this love shone through his work on all levels, including his church life and relationships with others. In spite of ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease), John continued to work up to his last day when the Lord took him home at the end of the workday at 5: 40 p.m. on Tuesday, June 14th . "…His master replied, 'Well done, good and faithful servant! ...Come and share your master's happiness!'" Matthew 25: 21 Visitation and Funeral Service will be held at Zion United Reformed Church of Sheffield, 238 Old Highway 8, Sheffield, Ontario, L0R 1Z0. Visitation on Thursday, June 16 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral on Friday, June 17 at 2: 00 p.m. In lieu of gifts or flowers, you are encouraged to make a donation to Edu Deo Ministries (formerly Worldwide Christian Schools) or the Ontario Christian Gleaners. Arrangements entrusted to Corbett Funeral Home (519-740-0669).
