- FIRKO, Joan
Passed away February 2, 2015, at Village of Riverside Glen, in her 82nd year. She was born in Doncaster, England, but resided most of her life in Cambridge, Ontario, after emigrating to Canada with her husband. She had a lengthy career, as an Occupational Therapist at K-W Hospital (GRH). Loving wife of Boleslaw Firko, for 46 years, and mother of Helen and Stella. Predeceased by her husband, her daughter Leona, her sister Doriel (Pat) Drayton and her parents, Anne and Harold Snell. Survived by her sister Bernice Wheatcroft and her sister-in-law, Jadwiga Firko. Aunt to nephews Andrew, Mark, Gregorz, Dean and Peter, and nieces Sandra, Dorota and Margozia. The family will receive friends at Dale Lounsbury Funeral Home, 1766 Franklin Boulevard, Cambridge, on Monday, February 9th from 2-5 p.m. A Memorial Service will take place, on Tuesday, February 10th, at 11 a.m., in the funeral home chapel. The family would like to thank all the staff at Riverside Glen, Memory Care floor, for their excellent care of Mom during the last 2 years and the compassion and kindness extended to her and her family over the past several weeks; special thanks to Colleen, Maria, Siobhan, AnnaLisa and the "2 Lynns". Thanks to the additional support workers provided by CCAC and ParaMed and a special thank you is extended to Jacques Desloges, for his compassionate and humourous, yet respectful bedside manner, when treating Mom. We'd also like to extend thanks to Dr. McCarron and staff at Grand River Regional Cancer Centre for their support during her illness.
