- MALATCHES, James
Peacefully, passed away on Sunday, February 17, 2013, with his family by his side at Cambridge Memorial Hospital, in his 83rd year. Sadly missed by his beloved wife Sophia (nee Anagnostopoulou) of 50 wonderful years. Loving father to Fred (Koula) and Steve (Theodora). Proud Papou to Sophia, Rina, Dimitri and Amelia. Dear brother to Manios (Dianne - deceased), Peter (Marlene), Cathy (Nick - deceased) and Greg (Denise). Predeceased by his parents, Fred and Helen along with his sister, Mary (Manoli). Forever remembered by his many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. James was born on June 13, 1930, in Amindeo, Greece. He served in the Greek Army from 1951 - 1952, before immigrating to Canada, in 1955, where he met and later married the love of his life Sophia on September 30, 1962. Once James came to Canada, he worked in a foundry for seven years before opening Diana's Restaurant, in 1962, with his brothers and continued in the business for 43 years. James enjoyed the simple things in life, he was very family orientated, caring deeply for his wife, children and grandchildren. The greatest joy in his life for the past 15 years has been his four grandchildren. James was a member of St. Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church, Kitchener, for many years along with St. George's Greek Orthodox Church, Guelph. A Funeral Service was held on Wednesday, February 20, 2013, at Coutts Funeral Home.
