    • Death of an Early Settler

On Friday last another of the oldest pioneers of Waterloo County passed away. This time it was Mrs. Nancy Henry, relict of the late James Henry, who died some years ago. The deceased was the eldest daughter of the late Squire Ellis, of Waterloo, and settled on the farm at present occupied by her brother, Mr. W. E. Ellis, when all this part of Canada was a howling wilderness. She came from the County of Cavan, Ireland, where she was born in May, 1803, being 85 years, 9 months and 16 days old, at her death. She leaves behind to mourn her loss seven sons and two daughters, 87 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren, and was universally beloved and respected. From her youth up she was a consistent member of the Methodist Church, in which faith she died. For the last few years she has lived with different of her children, but for some time before her death she resided with her daughter, Mrs. James Aikens, Puslinch.
