Dr. Iva Taves, died peacefully, at Freeport Hospital, on Tuesday afternoon, March 29, 2011. She was predeceased by her first husband ,Harvey Taves, in 1965 (Mennonite Central Committee Director) and will be missed by her family; John W. Snyder (married November 16, 1991); John’s children, Jed (Michele Dickinson) of Cambridge, Patricia (Christopher Dustin) of Thompson CT, Julia (Hans Behrendt) of Berlin and granddaughter Abigail Dustin; Iva’s family, Mila, Mark, Jilienne, Caitie, Jacob and Jesse Reusser, Mary Taves, Ruth Fallding, Saul and Jimmy Sotomayor, Harold and Ruth Sherk, Arthur and Anne Sherk, Mildred Kreider and an extended Sherk family. She was predeceased by her parents, Mila (Senor) and J. Harold Sherk. Iva was the Laboratory Director and Pathologist, at the Kitchener Waterloo Hospital, for almost all of her 37 year career. She modeled and required the highest standards of professionalism. Iva was the first female President of the Ontario Association of Pathologists, 1972-1973. She served on Hospital Laboratory Accreditation Committees and was a meticulous diagnostician, and administrator. Friends and relatives are invited to share their memories of Iva with her family, on Saturday, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King Street South, Waterloo. The service to celebrate her life and faith will be held at Rockway Mennonite Church, 32 Weber Street West, Kitchener, on Sunday, April 3, 2011, at 3 p.m., with Rev. Scott Brubaker-Zehr officiating. Immediately following the service, friends and relatives are invited to remain at Rockway Church, for lunch and a time of visiting. A family committal service, will be held Saturday morning, April 2, at Woodland Cemetery, Kitchener.
