Notes |
- GREEN, Allan Miles
February 20, 1925 - February 28, 2014. His earthly work complete, Allan returned home to his loving God and Heavenly Father. Left to mourn his loss are his loving and devoted wife of 64 years, Dorothy (Nokes), his cherished and adoring children: Carol (Clayton) Eaton, Nancy (Rick) Hogarth, Richard Green and Beverly (Jim) Johnson. Loving Grandpa to Peter, Mark, Bryan, Emily, Michelle, Tiffany, Jennifer, Sarah, Natasha and Courtney. Proud Grammpy to Aryanna, Olivia, Simon, Wayne, Christopher, Maya, Kylen, Skylar, Aidan, Luke and Oliver. Also survived by brother, Dr. Ross (Shirley) Green, nieces, nephew, many cousins and extended family. Predeceased by his parents, Charles and Gladys Green, in-laws, Harry and Elisabeth Nokes and his youngest daughter, Janet. Born and raised in Belleville, Ont., Al entered the Royal Canadian Navy in 1943, serving on the HMCS Destroyer Assiniboine, until deployed in 1945. Graduating from the University of Toronto, in 1949, Al married the love of his life Dorothy. After working various jobs, Al began his Federal Public Service career, by what is now known as Human Resources Development Canada, from 1960, until retirement in 1986. Al made considerable volunteer contributions to the Canadian Diabetes Association, since 1972, through strong leadership and enthusiasm. His involvement and commitment in the International Association of Personnel in Employment Security (IAPES), allowed him to travel to many Canadian and USA cities and formed lifetime friendships. Al was an active member of Trinity Anglican Church, serving faithfully on many Boards and committees. For over 10 years, Al was an invaluable volunteer, team and Board member of Marney Patterson Invitation to Live Ministries. Al was honoured by many awards and Life Membership in C.D.A. and IAPES, for his contribution to humanity. He received the Jaycee Citizen of the Year Award, the Anglican Bishops' Award of Excellence for the Diocese of Huron as well as Canada Volunteer of the Year for his many years of voluntary service. Since 1960, Al served in a number of organizations including Boy Scouts, YMCA, St. John Ambulance, Mental Health, International Personnel Association, Telephone Distress Centre, Home and School, Toastmasters, Naval Veterans, Federal Superannuates and Trinity Community Table, at the Executive level sometimes active in as many as six Boards at one time. Al considered himself a "pretty ordinary person - God driven but ordinary". An example of a well respected, hard working, wonderful man who loved his Lord, his wife, children and extended family, Al will be sadly missed by them as well as anyone who had the pleasure and good fortune of knowing him. Visitation will be held at Coutts Funeral Home, 96 St. Andrews St., Cambridge, on Friday, March 7, 2014, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at Trinity Anglican Church, 12 Blair Rd., Cambridge, on Saturday, March 8, 2014, at 1 p.m. In respecting Al's specific wishes "NO FLOWERS".
