Notes |
- BOND, RICHARD
On Monday morning at 6: 30, September 6, 1886, well known resident of Puslinch, aged 66 years, 6 months and 4 days. He has been in failing health for some time and although naturally of a rugged, strong constitution, by severe and continuous labour, he had overtaxed it. He was a native of Devonshire, England and emigrated to this country when a young man. He was a member of the well known and respected family of the name, who have long been residents amongst us. His parents and other members of the family had preceded him about a year and settled in the township of Beverly, upon the farm at present occupied by Henry Bond. Of his brothers there are yet living: Edwin Bond, merchant in Sheffield; Henry Bond, farmer; John Bond, farmer near Little Lake in Puslinch. Mr. Bond at first settled upon the farm near Sheffield, recently owned by the late James Sipes but afterwards, removed to the lot on the 1st concession of Puslinch, where he continued to reside until his death. He was twice married, his second wife surviving him. By his first marriage, he had twelve children, only four of whom survive: George of the county of Kent, John in Manitoba, Henry in Dakota and William on the homestead. He was a characteristic Englishman and was held in high esteem by those with whom he came in contact.
-Information from the 1906 Atlas of Wellington County: Son of John Bond of Beverly. Grandson of Richard Bond and Catharine Mallet.
-Information from Bonds and Other Valuable Assets by Irv Krause: Born on March 2, 1820 at Woolfardisworthy, Devonshire, England. 1st marriage to Maria Clyne (1826-Sept. 19, 1877). 2nd marriage to Philipina Scoff. Children of Richard and Maria Bond were: George (b. 1846) of Port Dover; Margaret Louisa (1850-Aug. 19, 1897) married Charles Stahl; Susannah Maria (b. 1852) married Andrew Fisher; James
(b. 1853); John R. (B. 1856) of Brandon, MB; Samuel Henry (Feb. 22, 1857-June 17, 1921) of Inkster, ND; William E. (Nov. 14, 1867-June 29, 1941) of Puslinch.
