- Death of Mrs. Baker Former Resident of Ayr Passes In Farrell, Pennsylvania
The death occurred, after an illness of a month's duration, in Farrell, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, June 2nd, of Mrs. Thomas Baker, a former well-known and highly esteemed resident of Ayr. Deceased came to Ayr some sixty years ago and married the late Thomas Baker, a son of William Baker, pioneer merchant of Ayr from 1844 on. The family lived in Ayr for some forty years, subsequently moving to Paris, where Mr. Baker died. The late Mrs. Baker resided in Paris for ten years, moving theme to Farrell, Pa., where she took up residence with her daughter, Miss Mae Baker. During her residence in Ayr, the late Mrs. Baker was always actively interested in community work, and took a great interest in music. For a number of years she was organist and choir leader of Stanley Street Church. A daughter, Miss Mae Baker, is the only surviving member of the family. An older daughter, Margaret, was a nurse for 18 months overseas, but died two months after her return. Her remains are buried in the Ayr Cemetery. The funeral took place upon the arrival of the morning train at Paris on Tuesday, interment being made in the Ayr Cemetery. A short service at the graveside was conducted by Rev. Mr. Cocks, pastor of the An Church, Paris. The pallbearers were: John Hall, Mr. Smoke, jr., Mr. Robinson and Mr. Crooks of Paris; 0. T. Scott of Caledonia and Mr. Patten of Toronto.
