    • ARRESTED ON CHARGE OF PROCURING ILLEGAL OPERATION ON YOUNG KITCHENER GIRL.

Arnold Wiegand, jeweler of Cleveland, Ohio, and Mrs. F. Walsh, midwife, are expected to go on trial in Cleveland in January on charges of procuring an illegal operation upon a nineteen year old Kitchener girl who died in Cleveland last September.

The girl and her sister went to Cleveland in September and two weeks later an operation was performed, it is alleged, at the home of Mrs. Walsh after which the sister returned to Kitchener. The girl died at the city hospital Sept. 19th, and a postmortem by Dr. Hammond revealed that death was due to an operation.

The authorities after making unsuccessful efforts to locate the girl's relatives interred the body in a potter's field. Shortly after burial the unfortunate girl's sister and brother at Kitchener learned of her death and immediately came to Cleveland and had the remains exhumed and sent to Kitchener, Investigations by the police resulted in the arrest of Arnold Wiegand and Mrs. Walsh on Oct. 18th. Both of the accused protest their innocence.

Attractive, Indiscreet; Lies in Potter's Field
      By the United Press.

CLEVELAND, Sept. 21. - The body of a 19-year-old girl was buried in the potter's field at noon today. Who she is or where she came from is not known. With her sister she arrived in Cleveland two weeks ago and stayed at a boarding house kept by Mrs. Morenta Hansen, No. 2118 East 56th street.

She was attractive, well dressed, and apparently came of good family. She had dark brown hair, brown eyes, and was slightly plump.

Saturday she became violently ill. The police, summoned by Mrs. Hansen, took her to the city hospital where she was found to be suffering from blood-poisoning, the effect of a criminal operation. She died Tuesday.

The sister, who said her first name was Olive, made one visit to the hospital just before the girl died. Then she disappeared. Authorities knew the girl by the name of Carrie Voll, of 53 Scott street, Kitchener, Ontario. They have learned that both names and address were fictitious.
