Loved husband of Mabel Shantz (Cressman) and dear brother of Dorothy Snyder, both of Cambridge. Dad will be sadly missed by Carol J. Martin (Ernie) of Elora, Ray Shantz (Marlene) of Shakespeare, Dianne Roeder (Doug) of Ayr and Lynn Stager (Allen) of Dorchester. Special dad to Alvin Thrush of Calgary. Loving grandpa to Rick and Kathleen Martin, Valerie Williams and Shane Kropf, Roger and Grace Martin, Shellie and Sherman Martin, Tim and Jenny Shantz, Jim and Brenda Shantz. John and Catherine Shantz, Dan and Sarah Shantz, Vicky and Derek Martin. Stephanie and Jason Fournier, Mark Roeder, Melanie Stager. His great grandchildren were his delight. Kaitlyn, Nathan, Nicholas, Amanda, Marissa, Seth, Seth, Benjamin, Katrina, Reuben, Hannah, Madison, Helina. Clay and Annika and in-laws, Mabel Snyder, LeRoy and Susie Good, Ralph and Eileen Snyder. Also survived by his in-laws, Clifford Cressman, Edith Woolner, Harold Cressman, Alfred High. Anna Cressman and many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by his first loving and dedicated wife of 58 years, Vera Snyder (1996); sisters, Leota and Ed Feick, Vinetta and Vernon Witmer; brothers. Lloyd and Beatrice Shantz, Ward and Mabel Shantz; in-laws. Lloyd Schmitt, Nelson Snyder, John W. Snyder, Alice Good; two grandchildren, Traci Stager and Chad Roeder and Betty Thrush.
The most important aspects of dad's life were his love and faithful service for the Lord. His love of music included being in a male quartet and as congregational song leader at Shantz Mennonite Church, later singing with the Fairview Senior Choir.
The family farm is now the Foxwood Golf Course. Later he enjoyed being a custom farm operator in the Roseville area. Among his interests, dad won awards ploughing with a team of Percheron horses at local ploughing. matches. His lifetime love of crokinole will not be forgotten. He also served as a Director of Mennonite Aid Union for many years.
Friends and family will be received at the Centre Auditorium of Fairview Mennonite Home, 515 Langs Drive. Cambridge, today (Monday) from 2-4 p.m. and Tuesday at the Westmount Funeral Chapel, 1001 Ottawa St. South (at Westmount Rd.). Kitchener, 743-8900, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A service of committal will take place at Shantz Mennonite Church Cemetery on Wednesday, March 31, 2004 at 1 p.m. followed by a Memorial Service to be held at 2:30 p.m. at Pioneer Park Christian Fellowship, 68 Biehn Drive, Kitchener. As expressions of sympathy, do nations to Fairview/Parkwood Build ing Fund or Mennonite Church Canada-Christian Witness would be appreciated by the family.
