  She was baptized as Lisette Marie Wilhelmine Mahn on 1883May27 at First St Peter Lutheran Church, Brant Twp, Bruce Co. Probably she was named after her brother's unmarried sister, Lizetta Mahn, who had emigrated from Germany the previous fall. As was common, the girls in my grandmother's family received little or no schooling. My grandfather taught her to read and write after the Mahn family moved to Berlin in the late 1890s. It's no surprise then that the spelling of her given name didn't follow spelling conventions. Lisette (or Lisetta/Lizetta) was commonly known as 'Lizzie' and my grandfather called her 'Liz' but these were short for 'Lisette' and not 'Elizabeth'. Formally she used the name 'Lecetta' on legal documents and that is the name on her headstone at Woodland Cemetery in Kitchener. Email Bruce Uttley 2012
