- "She enlisted in the Army in 1942 and served with the Canadian Nursing Service during World War II. She served in Europe where she met and married her husband, Walter Atlee Armstrong, in October of 1943. She was discharged in 1944. After the war, she continued to live in England until the death of her husband in 1961. In 1962, she returned to Canada and lived the rest of her life in New Hamburg. Lieutenant Margaret Armstrong was awarded the Defence Medal, the Canadian Volunteer Medal, Clasp to the CVSM, the War Medal 1939-45, and the General Service Badge. Margaret was the mother of four children. In the 50s she returned to her nursing career. She passed away on December 18, 1972 at the age of 62."
