- SCHMITT, Walter C. - Peacefully, with family by his side, at St. Mary's Hospital, on Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2001, after a brief illness, Walter Charles Schmitt, of Kitchener, aged 86 years.
Wally and his wife of 66 years, Dolores were charter members of St. Stephen Lutheran Church and was a member of the church. council. When Wally retired in 1969 from the Kitchener News Company, he had completed 38 years as an employee, manager and co-owner. He was a member of the retired business and professional mens club.
Loving husband to the former Dolores Schnarr, who is residing at Sunnyside Home where she is receiving loving care from her health care professionals. Dear father to Douglas and his wife Edee and Judy Farwell, all of Kitchener; grampa to Geoff, Jane and Tim Schmitt and Jeremy Farwell.
Predeceased by his parents, William Schmitt and Elizabeth Hammer; four sisters, Olivia, Vera, Dorothy and Edna and three brothers, Wilfrid, Oliver and Lester.
Friends may call at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home, 621 King St. W., Kitchener, tonight (Thursday) from 7-9 p.m. and Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. where the funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m., with Pastor Bill Shafer officiating. Interment will be in Parkview Cemetery. Reception to follow in the Ratz-Bechtel. Family Centre.
Wally was actively involved in the original building of St. Stephen Lutheran Church and the first addition in 1963. Currently his church is involved in a major building and renovation project (Our Faith Journey): Wally's family would appreciated as expressions of sympathy, donations to the St. Stephen's Our Faith Journey Fund..
