  MATTHEWS, Ormond D. - At the Kitchener-Waterloo Hospital, on Saturday, Sept. 22, 1973, following a brief illness, Ormond D. Matthews, a resident of Green Gables Manor and formerly of Chapel St., aged 88 years; born in Acton, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Edward Matthews. Mr. Matthews had been a resident of the Twin Cities for the past 85 years, a member of Trinity United Church and had been employed with the postal service in Kitchener for 37 years; he retired in 1949. Husband of Bertha Kudoba who predeceased him in 1972; father of Dallas (Mrs. Edward Cowan) who predeceased him August 15, 1961, and Verna (Mrs. Gordon E. Bender) who predeceased him August 19, 1967; brother of Ethel (Mrs. W. G. Stericker), Toronto; Rene (Mrs. W. G. Edwards) and Florence (Mrs. F. Metcalfe), both of Kitchener; grandfather of David Bender, Kitchener and Nancy (Mrs. Ronald Miller) of North Bay; great-grandfather of Andrew Bender and Kent Miller. Mr. Matthews was predeceased by one brother and three sisters. Friends may call at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home, 621 King St. West, Kitchener, after 2 p.m. Sunday.
