  CASSEL, Edmund Joseph - After a long and courageous battle with cancer, Edmund passed away, on October 27, 2000, at Freeport Health Centre of Grand River Hospital, Kitchener, in his 77th year. He was born in Wellesley Township on November 27, 1923. Beloved husband of Hilda Diebold of Elmira; father of Mark and Danielle of Elmira, Valerie of Harrington, Jennifer and Todd Whittom of Elmira, Ann and Rick Kilgour of Kitchener and daughter-in-law, Darlene Cassel of Elmira; dear papa of Ryan and Taylor Cassel and Austin Whittom, all of Elmira; son-in-law of Helen Diebold of Glen Allan. Beloved brother of Doris Hahn of Elmira, Arthur and June of Fergus, Elgin of Elmira, Mary Cybulskie of Waterloo, William and Theresa of Elmira, Lloyd and Susan of Milverton, Joe of Stratford, Sheila and Dominic Etmanski of Kitchener. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents, Herbert Cassel and Coletta Foerster; father-in-law, Jerome Diebold; two brothers, Leonard and Murray; two brothers-in-law, William Hahn and Anthony Cybulskie; three sisters-in-law, Florence Cassel, Rose Cassel and Barbara Cassel. Edmund farmed in the Glen Allan and Linwood area before moving to the Brunner/Milverton area in 1969 where he farmed for 23 years. He then farmed for 9 years in the Ripley area before moving to Elmira in May, 2000. The family received friends and relatives at the Dreisinger Funeral Home, Elmira on Sunday from 7-9 pm and will receive friends and relatives today (Monday) from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral mass will be held at St. Teresa of Avila RC Church, Flamingo Drive, Elmira on Tuesday, Oct. 31 at 10: 30 am, with Father George Nowak CR officiating, followed by interment in Elmira Union Cemetery.
