    • Well-Known Citizen Dies - At Hospital in 69th Year

      E. Bruce Bailey, manager of the Cambridge Housing Authority and former city alderman, died Saturday in Brantford General Hospital. He was 68. Born in Summerset, Manitoba, July 17, 1905, Mr. Bailey lived in Stratford for several years before moving to Galt in 1944. As a well-known merchant, the deceased operated Bailey and Harrison Feeds Ltd. on Ainslie Street, before accepting the position with the housing authority in 1966. Mr. Bailey served five consecutive years on Galt city council beginning in 1960 and being re-elected in 1962 and 1964. He is probably best remembered on council for his stand against the construction of a new city hall complex. His election campaign centred on a platform of opposition to a new centre and once elected he was appointed chairman of the property committee which scrapped plans for a new centre and organized the renovation of the existing building. In November of 1965, Mr. Bailey performed the ribbon cutting ceremony to officially open the reworked Galt city hall. - ACCEPTS POST - Mr. Bailey resigned as alderman in 1965 with one year still remaining in his term of office, to accept the housing authority position. The deceased was also active in other areas of the community. He was a member of Trinity Anglican Church, the Masonic Lodge, the Galt Curling Club and a former member of the Galt Lion's Club. He is survived by his wife Ethel Morgan; a daughter, Mrs. Raymond (Patricia) Gray, Toronto; a son, Bruce Morgan Bailey, Ottawa; [unreadable] Harvey, Victoria, and Peter Keith, Vancouver; and four grandchildren. The deceased is at Coutts and Son Funeral Home, 96 St. Andrews Street. Friends will be received by the family from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Aug. 20. Private family funeral service will be held with interment in Mount View Cemetery.
