    • Virginia Mixer, who retired from UW June 1, 1979, died on July 13. She was a staff member in the library from September 1961 \emdash first in Dana Porter and subsequently as head of the circulation department in what was then the Engineering, Mathematics and Science library, located on the fourth floor of the Math and Computer building. She was the widow of Rev. Chester Mixer of Kitchener's St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church, and is survived by their daughter and two sons. "In lieu of flowers," the family suggests, "donations to St. John the Evangelist and Amnesty International would be appreciated."

      MIXER, Virginia E. - Virginia passed away July 13, 2007 at St. Mary's Hospital in Kitchener at the age of 93. She was the daughter of Herman and Marguerite Brown. Virginia was born in Auburn, Indiana, U.S.A. and was the last living member of her family. She was predeceased by her parents; brothers, Bernard, Donald, Richard and her sister, Kathryn Garnes. Virginia married in 1940 to her college sweetheart and moved to Canada in 1941. Her husband Canon Chester C.W. Mixer was the rector of Church of St. John the Evangelist (Anglican) in Kitchener from 1949 until his death in 1961. The family continued to live in Kitchener and Virginia was able to live in her own home until 2006, when she moved into Lanark Place in Kitchener. She started working at the University of Waterloo in 1961 in the Arts Library initially and then eventually becoming the head of circulation in the Engineering Library. She retired in 1979. During her life, Virginia enjoyed basketball, golf, bridge and many activities associated with her involvement at St. Johns. She spent many wonderful summers at her cottage in Port Elgin. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Sjoquist (Charles) of Queenston, Maryland, John (Lynne) of Cambridge, Michael (Barb) of Guelph and her grandchildren, Megan (Gregg) of Seattle, Jane and Jennifer Mixer and Stephen and Rachel Mixer. She will be missed by the family but never forgotten. Memorial Services will be held at St. John the Evangelist at the corner of Duke and Water Streets, Tuesday, July 17, 2007 at 11 a.m. Neil Carver, former rector of St. Johns, will participate in the service. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. John the Evangelist and Amnesty International would be appreciated. Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home may be contacted for further details. 519-745-9495.
