- SUDDEN DEATH OF REV. W.C. BOESE SUNDAY
Pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran Church Died on Road
GOING TO LINWOOD B
Was President of Children's Aid Society for Many Years
With tragic suddenness Kitchener lost a highly esteemed citizen, St. Paul's Lutheran Church was deprived of a successful and faithful pastor, and the family lost a loving husband and kind-hearted father hen Rev. W. C. Boese dropped dead on the road near St. Jacobs about three o'clock on Sunday afternoon. The news of his unexpected demise spread rapidly throughout the city and cast a gloom throughout the community.
The deceased had not been in the best of heath for several weeks, and had been receiving treatment for high blood pressure. During the holidays he was actively engaged in pastoral duties, and also participated in the festivities with the result that he exceeded his strength. Sunday morning, however, he preached a vigorous New Year's sermon, and made a strong appeal to his congregation to serve their God even better than they had in the past. He also referred to the fact that some faces were missing which were in the pews a year ago and that it was possible that there would be some present at the service who would not be there a year from now. He emphasized the uncertainty of life which made it necessary them to follow their God more closely.
After partaking of a light dinner Mr. Boese started for Linwood where he had an appointment for the evening. When near St. Jacobs This car was stalled in a snow-drift and neighboring farmers assisted him to extricate his car. He about to crank his car, when he suddenly fell to the ground, and life was extinct. His remains were removed to Elmira, and later brought to his home in Kitchener. Death was due to heart failure.
The late Mr. Boese was in his 51st year, and was brought up and educated in New England. He had been in the pastorate for one year previous to being called to St. Paul's Lutheran Church twenty-six years. ago. When he arrived here the congregation had a membership about fifty. To-day there are two hundred members. During his pastorate the church has been improved, a new Sunday School and new parsonage have been erected, and a fine new organ was recently dedicated. The congregation has enjoyed gratifying prosperity throughout Mr. Boese's pastorate He was a forceful and eloquent preacher and his sermons will long be remembered by the members of his flock.
Rev Mr. Boese was particularly fond of children, and for years he took an active interest in the work of the Children's Aid Society, of which he was the President at the time of his death He felt the loss of his associate Vice President, Rev. Theo Spetz, who died recently, very keenly, and has been somewhat anxious that the Society should secure useful successor Mr. Boese was a lover athletics, and encouraged sports among his young people as well as patronizing the games at the park.
Rev. Mr. Boese was an ex-president of the Canada District of the Missouri Synod and was well known throughout the Province. He is survived by his bereaved wife, four daughters and one son, who will have the deepest sympathy of a wide circle of friends and acquaintances.
The funeral will be held on Wednesday afternoon from his residence to St Paul's Church and from thence to Mount Hope cemetery.
Letter of Sympathy.
At the evening service in Trinity Methodist Church. The pastor, Rev. W. E. Pescott, referred in feeling terms to the loss sustained by the famliy and a sister congregation in the sudden death of Rev Mr Boese, and by a silent vote of uplifted hands it was decided that a letter of sympathy be sent to the family and the congregation of St. Paul's Church.
