- Walter Bowes - Passed away peacefully at Cambridge Memorial Hospital on July 14, 2007 in his 84th year. Predeceased by his wife of 59 years Lila, he will be missed by his daughter Mary Margaret Milic of Cambridge, grandsons Andrew and Mark Milic, his sister Vera Rice of Shelbourne, brothers Robin (Grace) of Fort Frances, John (Peggy) of Orillia, and many nieces and nephews spread across Canada. Walter was born in Yorkshire, England and brought to Canada as an infant. He was raised on his parent's fruit farm just east of Hamilton and moved to Galt with his family in 1937. He went to Galt Collegiate, and started working in 1941 in the engineering part of Galt Metal Industries. He took three years out to join the Royal Canadian Navy during WWII. He left Galt Metal in 1955 to set up and manage Harter Furniture in Guelph, a manufacturer of office seating. Retiring in 1985 he and Lila spent their retirement years between Florida, Fergus and Guelph before health took them to Queens Terrace Retirement Home. Visitation for Walter will be held at the Lounsbury Funeral Home, 1766 Franklin Boulevard, Cambridge on Tuesday, July 17th from 1-2 p.m. with a funeral service following at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Those who wish may make a memorial donation to Heart and Stroke Foundation.
