    • Blake, William Joseph Thomas - July 3, 1919 - October 1, 2008 - Passed away at Riverbend Place, Cambridge, in his 90th year. Bill attended Preston Public School and Preston High School. He worked at the Canadian Office and School Furniture Company and served in the Highland Light Regiment as a Sergeant in "D" Company. He then joined the RCAF and served 3 years during the war. After the war he returned to the Canadian Office and School Furniture Company as a Purchasing Agent. Bill then worked for Rexwood Products Limited for 23 years in the Sales Department until his retirement. He served his community as Chairperson of the Board of Education the year the High School was built, and served on the Committee of Adjustment for the Town at the time Cambridge was incorporated. Bill was the President of the Lawn Bowling Club for 3 terms and in 2002 was named "Honourary President". He served on the Building Committee that rebuilt Saint John's Anglican Church in Preston (Cambridge). He organized his Neighbourhood Watch in the area where he lived. He was a member of the Hespeler/Preston Probus Club and the Small Business Advisory Group. Bill was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Preston Branch 126 for over 60 years and a member of the 404 RCAF Wing Waterloo Branch for 35 years. Bill was proud of his baseball career pitching for the Preston Furniture Company and in the Gas Bar League for Imperial Gas. He s career with the Air Force and for the Royal Canadian Legion Preston Branch 126. During this time he was proud to have pitched a no hit, no run game. Bill knew and met many people in his travels to the Caribbean and was known for his loyalty and helpfulness to his friends. He was predeceased by his parents, his father Joseph Thomas Blake (1956), his mother Agnes Margaret Lamb (1975), his wife Alice Lydia Iredale (1971), his son Peter William Blake (1996), and his sister Constance Mary Blake Lynch (1991). Survived by his daughter Brenda Alice Smith (Blake) and her husband Ian Ronald Smith of North Bay and his grandsons Jeremy Thomas Rayment (Pamela) of North Bay, Daniel William Rayment of Oshawa, and Matthew Joel Allan Smith (Heather) of Markham. He has one great-grandson Logan Patrick William Rayment of North Bay. Survived by his sister Agnes Margaret Blake Lee of Sarnia, sister-in- law Ruth Wahl and her husband Karl of Kitchener, and a niece Cynthia A. Lynch of Southampton, Pennsylvania, USA. There are many cousins surviving in the south of England as well. The family will receive friends at the Barthel Funeral Home, 566 Queenston Road, Cambridge on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p. m. The Funeral Service will be conducted on Monday, October 6, 2008 at Saint John's Anglican Church, 567 Queenston Road, Cambridge at 11: 00 a. m. with Canon David Bowyer officiating. Reception to follow at the church for family and friends. Interment in Preston Cemetery at 2: 00 p. m.
