  • Notes
    • BUSS, John, 1941 - 2009 - In the fall of 1965, a young Englishman named John Buss boarded the Queen Elizabeth to set sail for new opportunities. Job offer folded neatly in his suitcase, John was looking forward to starting work at Galt Brass in the little town of Galt, Ontario. His parents watched from the wharf as their only child set out to make his way in the world. John's first experience with the Canadian winter came as a bitter surprise and he thought perhaps he'd made a mistake and should just return to Manchester. He may well have done so if not for the warmth of a young woman who was melting his heart during that cold winter. Her name was Carol Blaxley. They married in 1968. They had three children (Jonathan, Stephen and Michael), from which grew a larger family to include, so far, two daughters-in-law (Charlotte and Ji-eun) and four grandchildren (Madeline, Andrew, Graham and Claire). John was a mechanical designer for several local manufacturers during his career. He was meticulous in his pursuit of excellence, whether at work or home. To do a job right, to be thorough, to be proud of his efforts; those were the things that drove him. When two of his boys moved into older houses, John was provided with a wealth of projects. Whether building decks, installing sinks, or oiling squeaky hinges, he brought the full force of his skills and focus to the job. He would often jokingly lament the challenges of being a perfectionist in an imperfect world. Having completed countless home improvement projects at Stephen's house over the past four years, John was preparing to announce "mission accomplished" later this summer after a few minor projects were crossed off the list. Those plans came to a sudden end on Tuesday, May 12, 2009 when this healthy and active man fell victim to an unexpected stroke. Though the perfectionist's unfinished work remains, today John's family declares mission accomplished on a wonderful and successful life. He was much loved by his wife and family and will be sorely missed. A private family cremation will be held. John's family and friends are invited to attend a reception to remember and celebrate his life on Sunday, May 17, 2009 from 2-5 p.m. at the Whistle Bear Golf Club, 1316 Dickie Settlement Road, Cambridge, ON N3H 4R8. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Coutts Funeral Home.
