  PIONEER CITIZEN YIELDS TO DEATH Henry W. Schneider Passes At home Here; Engaged in Fuel Business A prominent figure in the life of Elmira was removed from the scene on Saturday afternoon when Mr. Henry W. Schneider passed away at the age of 77 years, 6 months and 17 days. The late Mr. Schneider was born in Waterloo in 1849 being a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Casper Schneider. He was married in 1868 to Katie Rebscher, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Peter Rebscher of Kitchener. They spent two years in Waterloo, and then moved to a farm in Maryborough township where they lived for forty years. Sixteen years ago they came to Elmira, where with his son William purchased the coal and wood business from his son-in-law, Ernie Knoblauch. With this business he was actively connected until December last and took a keen interest in the affairs of the town in general. His white beard, cheery smile, and jovial manner always identified him as one of the picturesque figures of the pioneer age which has slipped away. He celebrated the fifty-eighth year of his marriage on the twelfth of April. Besides his widow he leaves one son William H. Schneider of Elmira and two daughters, Christina, (Mrs. Jacob Hoffer) of Floradale, and Edith (Mrs. Ernie Knoblauch) of Hesson. Ten grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. George Grosz of Listowel also survive him. The funeral was held on Wednesday afternoon from St. James' Lutheran church of which he was a member and was largely attended. The services were conducted by Rev. L. Kalbfleisch.
