- DR. JOHN H. YEAGLLY DEAD.
One of York's Leading Physicians Was: a Native of This City.
Dr. John H. Yeagley, a native of this city, and one of York's leading physicians, died at 1:10 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at his home, No. 127 East Market street, York. He was aged sixty years.
Death was due to acute pneumonia, Dr. Yeagley having been stricken just a week ago. From the outset it was realized that his condition was grave, as his heart was weakened and his vitality reduced by overwork. Stimulants were constantly administered to assist in combating the disease and as a last resort oxygen was used, but without avail. He was attended dursickness by Dr. J. A. Shower, and Dr. Brantley F. Parker, of York; his brother, Dr. James M. Yeagley, of Lancaster, and Dr. Clarence Bartlett, a. specialist from Philadelphia.
Dr. Yeagley came of a family of practitioners. His father, Dr. Henry Yeagley, practiced in Johnstown Cambria county; in Berlin and Waterloo, Canada, and later in Lancaster, where he died.
Dr. J. H. Yeagley was educated at University, Hahnemann College, Cobourgh, Medical College, Canada, Philadelphia. He was graduated from the latter institution in 1878 and at once began practicing in York. He was a pioneer in the use of the X-ray and other forms of electrical treatment there, and held high rank among the members of his profession. He was an ex-president Goodno Homeopathic Society. His practice was one of the largest of any physician in that city, his skill and sympathy earning him an enviable reputation.
His death was his final sacrifice to the work which had claimed his whole heart, as serious sickness found his vitality worn out by the devotion which he had given to ministering to the ills of others.
Dr. Yeagley was one of the devoted members of the First Methodist Episcopal church, and he had for many years been a member of the Board of Trustees. His charity won for him love of many an afflicted family, the deserving poor having always had a claim upon his services equal to that of patients in better circumstances.
Surviving are his wife, who was Rebecca Elizabeth Buckingham; four children, Rebecca Buckingham, Henry, John Dibert and William Buckingham Yeagley; a sister, Mrs.
John Shaub, of Lancaster, and two brothers, Dr. James M. Yeagley, of Lancaster, and Dibert Lincoln Yeagley of Kansas.
