- James Fields Rolls was born in Woodstock, Ontario on January 1, 1839, son of Dr. Charles Philip Rolls and Maria Fields. The father of our subject received his secondary education in France, a Medical Degree in England and was licensed in Ontario on April 10, 1834. James Rolls was a Graduate of Medicine in 1863 and hung his shingle at Brighton, Ontario, before moving to British Columbia about 1886. Like his father, he was a doctor and dispensed drugs, managing the Vancouver Drug Company before moving to the interior. He settled at Hedley, British Columbia, where in the early part of the twentieth century, the population was rising due to the gold mining industry. Dr. James Fields Rolls died on September 12, 1904, aged 65 years, 8 months, 11 days.
