DEATH OF MR. ALEXANDER FRASER, OF BRACKENRIG

In the death of Mr. Alexander Fraser at Brackenrig, Sept. 13th., at the advanced age of 85 years, Muskoka has lost another of the old pioneers.

Mr. Fraser was born at Balavrade, Inverness, Scotland, in 1832. At the age of eighteen he left the old land and after a sailing voyage of eleven weeks duration landed in Canada. He settled first at Kingston, where he remained for some years. He then went to the United States, returned again to Canada, and came to Muskoka in the sixties. Being one of the first settlers here, he had his share of the trials and hardships which the early settlers had to contend with and told many interesting tales of the at old days.

He settled first in Monck, moving later to Watt Township, and located the old homestead on the shore of Lake Rosseau. In 1870 he married Miss Eliza Foulkes, who predeceased him sixteen months ago.

The deceased was a successful farmer, at all times taking a keen interest in everything that was for the welfare of his township and district. He was deeply respected by all who knew him.

In religion he was a Presbyterian, he stood high in the Orange Lodge, or having joined that Order at Kingston in 1858, and was the father of the Orange Lodge at Port Carling.

The remains were laid to rest in a the cemetery at Port Carling on Sunday afternoon. The service was conducted by the Rev. Mr. Beach, Port Carling. The funeral was largely attended. Many beautiful floral gifts of sympathy were donated, among these being wreaths by Mrs. Sanford, Mr. and Mrs. Knight, Mr. and Mrs. George Hammell, Mr. and Mrs. Smith Mr. and Mrs. Foulkes, the Fraser family and the Edwards family.

The pall-bearers were Messrs. John Batten, William Johnson, William Killen, Joseph McCulley, John Smith and Victor Knight, members of the Orange Lodge.

Among relatives attending the funeral from a distance were Mrs. Keaney, Timmins; Mrs. McArthur, Miss. Ina Fraser and Mr. John Cameron af of 1918 Toronto.

The children left to mourn his loss are Alexander, Roderick and James of Charlton; Mrs. Emerich Heaslip, Mrs. Keaney, Timmins; Mrs. McArthur, Toronto; John, Milford Bay Mrs. Chas. Davidson; Gordon and Mary, Brackenrig.

Much sympathy is extended to the family in their sad loss.
