- William N. Whitla
GALT, William Norwood Whitla, 14 Grandview Ave., died Sunday, at South Waterloo Hospital. He was 70. Born Nov. 27, 1899, in Newtowards, Ireland, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Whitla and came to Galt, from Ireland, 59 years ago. He had been custodian at First United Church, for 20 years. Mr. Whitla was a member of the church, a former elder and choir member and also treasurer of the Sunday school for many years. He was a member of the Loyal Orange Lodge No. 478 and also served in the 208th Regiment in the First World War. Surviving are his wife, the former Nellie Hedges; two brothers, Joseph and James, and one sister, Margaret, all of Galt. The body will be at the Coutts and Son Funeral Home, until 1 p.m. Tuesday, when removal will be made to First United Church for service, at 2: 30 p.m. Rev. Duncan White will officiate. Burial will be in Mount View cemetery.
