PRESTON, March 24. Matthew Alexander Smith, 75, Preston and district resident for the past 24 years, died yesterday, at the Kitchener-Waterloo Hospital, where he had been confined for the past two weeks. Mr. Smith had been ailing for some time. Born in Listowel, the deceased resided in Guelph for 10 years and for a few years in Millbank, before coming to Preston. For the past 20 years he was engaged as a finisher at Pattinson Woollen Mill. He was an adherent of the United Church. His wife, Mabel Howes, one brother and five sisters predeceased him. Surviving is a daughter, Mrs. David Reain, Dundas St., Galt and a son, Joseph Stewart, of Preston. Three grandchildren also survive. The body is resting at the Stager-Pass Ltd. Funeral Home, where the funeral will be held on Saturday, at 2: 30 p.m., with interment in the Preston Cemetery.
