- Art was born on February 1, 1920 in Ayr, Ontario, and later resided in Galt and Southampton. He served proudly in World War II in England, France, Italy and Sicily as a member of the Princess Louise Dragoon Guards. Art was employed by CP Railway and Express for over 30 years.
Predeceased by his loving wife and best friend, Ada, to whom he was married for 53 years. Loving father of Jean and her husband Barry of Brighton, England; Wendy of Paris, Ontario; and Rob and his wife Kathy of Kitchener, Ontario. Art will be sadly missed by his grandchildren, Barry, Wendy, Dorothy, Heather, Christy, Andrew and Gillian, and his many great grandchildren. Survived by his younger brother, Jack and his wife Victoria of Waterloo, Ontario.
Visitation will be held at Coutts Funeral Home, 96 St. Andrews Street, Cambridge, Ontario (519-621-1650) on Wednesday, March 6, 2019, from 2 to 4 p.m., and from 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services to celebrate the life of Arthur Hawes will follow on Thursday, March 7, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Coutts Funeral Home.
Expressions of Remembrance may be made to the Southampton Branch No. 155 of The Royal Canadian Legion.
