    • A barrister in Waterloo for 43 years, James C. Haight, 29 Young Street West, died at the K-W Hospital last night. He was 80 years of age.
      Mr. Haight was a prominent figure in the community. He was vice-president of the Equitable Life Insurance Company and had served as municipal clerk and treasurer for 11 years. He was appointed clerk June 4, 1912 and resigned June 4, 1923.

      Mr. Haight was solicitor of the Equitable Life Insurance Company from the time of its organization in 1920 and became a director in 1931. He was a member of the company's executive investment committee.

      He also served as solicitor of the Waterloo Mutual Fire Insurance company for many years.

      Mr. Haight was gold medalist upon his graduation from law school.

      He served as a member of the Board of Stewards and also as trustee of First United Church.

      Prominent in Liberal circles, he at one time was one of the leaders of the North Waterloo Liberal Association. It is believed he was financial agent for Prime Minister Mackenzie King when Mr. King was first elected to Parliament as representative of North Waterloo in 1908.

      He also was associated with the Hydro movement at its inception.

      Mr. Haight consistently supported various charitable organizations and "did a lot of charitable work quietly," associates said.
      In his earlier years he was an enthusiastic curler.

      The son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Arnoldi Haight, he was born near Newmarket.

      Surviving are one brother Charles H. Haight of Toronto, one nephew, Frank Arnold of Capetown, South Africa, two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Katherine Haight, Portland, Oregon, and Mrs. Minnie Haight, Waterloo, and by two nieces, Dr. Rachel Haight, Ottawa, and Mrs. Charles Brewster, Portland, Oregon.

      The funeral will be held Saturday afternoon at 1:30 from the residence to Newmarket where interment will be made. Services will be conducted by Rev. E. Van Tilton and Rev. D.I. Forsyth. The remains will rest at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home until 10 o'clock Saturday morning.

      JAS. HAIGHT, SON OF QUAKER PIONEERS, DIES

      The son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Arnoldi Haight of Pine Orchard, James C. Haight, a well-known Waterloo barrister and brother of Charles Haight of Toronto, died at the Kitchener and Waterloo hospital last Wednesday at the age of 80. He was born at Pine Orchard on the family home stead.

      Arnoldi and Rachel Haight were among the pioneers of the Pine Orchard district. They settled on the George Hunt farm when they moved from Westlake to Pine Orchard neighborhood. Rachel Webb Haight attended Hallowell boarding school, now known as Picton. Both Arnoldi and Rachel Haight were Quakers and were clerks of the Friends Meeting at Pine Orchard. They celebrated their diamond wedding in 1908.

      Their children, of whom Charles is now the only one living, were. Frank, Milton, Eliza, Gulia, of Newmarket, James, and Charles, of Toronto, formerly of Detroit.

      James Haight, who was a barrister at Waterloo for 45 years, was a prominent community , figure there. He was vice-president of the Equitable Life Insurance Company and had served as municipal clerk and treasurer of Waterloo for 11 years. In his younger days Mr. Haight was an enthusiastic curler.

      The funeral service was hold at his residence In Waterloo on Saturday. Burial was made at Newmarket cemetery.

      Mr. Haight Is survived by his brother, Charles H., of Toronto, a nephew, Frank Arnold of Capetown, South Africa, two sisters-In-law, Mrs. Katharine Haight of Portland Oregon, and Mrs. Minnie Haight, Waterloo, and two nieces, Dr. Rachel Haight of Miami and Mrs. Charles Brewster, Portland, Oregon.
