Notes |
- Yeaman, William
May 8, 1914 - May 12, 2002. It is with great sadness that we announce the death of William Yeaman, loving and loved husband of Julia. He was our uncle Bill. Uncle Bill was known to many and he represented all that was good in people. He was a fixture at 47 South Street, Cambridge, where people looked for his friendly wave and window decorations as the bus passed by. Uncle Bill was born in Dundee, Scotland and came to Canada at the age of six. He was always a hard and conscientious worker and began delivering milk for Hutchinson/Cedar Hill Dairy, at age 12. His humanitarian nature was present even then, when he would walk beside his horse, up the hill, so he didn't have to be carried. Uncle Bill married his beloved Julia (Law), on May 18, 1935 and they shared 66 years of happiness together. He joined the army in 1939 and served throughout Europe and in the Occupation Army until 1946, After leaving the army, he obtained his Stationary Engineer's Certificate and went to work as the custodian at Lincoln Avenue School. He later moved to Stewart Avenue School and was there for 25 years, retiring in 1979. During his years at school, he was helpful to both students and teachers and was especially appreciated as a kind face on the first day of kindergarten, for many children in Galt. During his retirement, he continued to be active volunteering with Capables and had several part time jobs, including work for Little's Funeral Home. Uncle Bill was always active in his church and was an elder at Central Presbyterian Church for many years. During his last several years, Uncle Bill faced some challenges with his health. He was still cheerful and felt great pleasure in being out with people, driving his car, stopping for coffee and he especially enjoyed the company of his many nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at Little's Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 223 Main St. E., Cambridge, on Thursday, from 2-4 and 7-8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at Central Presbyterian Church, Cambridge, on Friday, May 17, 2002, at 1: 30 p.m.
