    • Another Defender Gone

The fellow citizens and acquaintances of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Rudow, Sr., will sympathize with them in the sad loss they have sustained through the war by the death of their son Arthur. Last week we reported that the young man was seriously ill overseas with influenza. This week we are called on to chronicle his death, official notice of which was received by his parents on Monday. Deceased was a young man to whom respect and gratitude is due, and in whose heart there stirred the true patriotic spirit which has made the young men of Canada famous throughout the world. Early in the war he enlisted in the ranks of the 118th Regiment. He did not wait for conscription but threw his weight into the fray on the side of justice, at a time when men counted most. Although he did not live to return to his native town, he will always be remembered as one of its heroes. He was overseas since January, 1817. A large proportion of this time way spent in the trenches where he was spared by the bullets, but where he fell victim to the disease which carried away so many of the young men of his age who stayed at home. He leaves his parents, three brothers, and three sisters and a host of friends to mourn their loss. His photo, which arrived too late for this issue, will appear in our next.
