- Retired Business Man Passes Away
Henry B. Duering Called on Sunday In His 75th Year - Former Auctioneer
One of Waterloo's best known former business men, in the person of Mr. Henry B. Duering, slept peacefully away at his home, King St. North, on Sunday, Nov. 4th. He had been in failing health for several years but was able to be about until taken to bed eight weeks ago. He was in his 75th year. For many years he was one of the town's most active citizens, In addition to being a successful farmer, he conducted a lucrative meat market business for a score of years in the building now occupied by Klaehn's Meat Market. Until ill health compelled his retirement from active business some years ago he was known as one of Waterloo County's best auctioneers, He also gave faithful service to his town, being a member of the town. council and county council for a few years and a member of the Board of Trade.
The late Mr. Duering was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Duering and was born in Waterloo. He was married to Miss Sophia Schade, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Martin Schade, who died twelve years ago. Surviving are one daughter. Mrs, Carl Damman, one brother, George Duering, and two sisters, Mrs. Catharine Nahrgang of Waterloo, and Mrs. Elizabeth Keating of Philadelphia. One son, Albert, died in Milwaukee 29 years
The funeral held from the late residence yesterday afternoon was largely attended by friends and rela tives, many coming from a distance. The service was conducted by Rev.. C. S. Roberts, pastor of the St. John's Lutheran Church, following. which interment was made in Mount Hope cemetery. Numerous floral tributes were sent by friends. The pallbearers John Grasser, Harry Schade, John Moyer, Alfred Duering. Edward Timm and John Diegel.
