    • TRADE HOLDS LORE AFTER FORTY YEARS BESIDE WORKBENCH

Henry F. Boehmer, 71, Still Vigorous After Long Service At Shoe Making And Repairing

Forty years at repairing shoes and still going strong. That is the record which Henry F. Boehmer who does his "cobbling" at 101 King street has made for himself. Despite the fact that he is 71 years of age Mr. Boehmer still takes a very lively interest in his trade, and does his work without any in speaking to assistance. a Record representative today, he recalled the time when he launched into the shoe making and shoe repairing trade, forty years ago, and states that at that time Waterloo was considerably larger than Kitchener Mr. Boehmer was born in Kitchener then Berlin in 1857 and lived there for twenty three years moving to Waterloo in 1880. After living here for a little over six years, he decided to go into the shoe business and moved to Milverton where he opened up a repair shop. Whether business was good or otherwise Mr. Boehmer did not stay, but after about a year and a half in Milverton he came back to Waterloo, establishing his shoe business here on April 1, 1888.

At that time Waterloo was almost as large as it is at present, tho Kitchener was even smaller than Waterloo. There were practically as many factories here then as there are now and Waterloo was quite an industrial centre, making swift strides toward advancement.

"Since opening that business here 40 years ago, Henry Boehmer stated, "I have not worked at any other trade. For the first while I used to manufacture shoes, but of late I have not made any. Business was very good at that time and has continued very well tho just at present it is a little slack.

Tho he has been working hard and consistently for forty consecutive years, and is 71 years of age, Mr. Boehmer certainly does not show it. He has plenty of vigor and vitality and these are matched by the merry twinkle in his eye.
