Notes |
- JACQUES, June Elizabeth March 27, 1923 - November 26, 2018 Peacefully after a long life, June is on her way to be with her first love, husband Jack. She will be greatly missed by her second love, her family of three sons, John (Sheila), Jim (Debra), Jeff (Florence), eight grandchildren and ten great- grandchildren. June is survived by brother Jack (Hicks) and joins sister Yvonne (Hannibal), brothers Dougal and Billy (Hicks). A wonderful woman, wife, mother, grandmother...who devoted her life to her family, her work and her beloved pets. Born in Hamilton, a youngster in Owen Sound and settling in Preston (Cambridge) as a teen, her lifetime endeavor started. Pumping gas and waiting on tables led to operating the fledgling Knotty Pine Drive Inn where she carved her nitch in Preston. Here she met her future husband Jack Jacques and married post war 1945. June had come from a hospitality family with her father owning several hotels in Simcoe, London and the Sulphur Springs in Preston. June became a savy business woman and a unique force for women of the day. Her logical, common sense, hard work ethic guided her third love, the Knotty Pine Restaurant, to a hugely successful run for over fifty years. At the Knotty Pine ""Mrs. Jacques"" impacted the lives of many young people who quickly learned hard work was the way to success. She was able to travel to the Caribbean, west and east coasts and Europe, and spent many years enjoying family and friends in Boca Raton, Florida. Respected for her caring hard work ethic and no job too big or too small she led a busy admirable life for 95 years. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of June's life is planned in January 2019. A special thanks to the caring and kind staff at St. Andrews. your genuine respect and patience is amazing.
