- BROOMFIELD, Rose M.
Passed away peacefully, at Saint Luke's Place on Saturday, March 9, 2013, in her 100th year. Rose was born in Galt, to the late Thomas and Alice (Scott) Hedges, on January 22, 1914. She was predeceased by her six brothers and five sisters and also, by a son, Peter James in May 1946. Beloved wife of 72 years to James A. Broomfield. Loved mother of Barbara (Joe) Nowak of Wellesley and cherished Grams to Kate (Duncan) Gibson of Etobicoke and Meg (Mike) Gardner of Sault Ste. Marie. Great-Grams to Willow Gibson. Rose taught Sunday School, for many years at Trinity Anglican Church and contributed her time to church activities. She organized the setting up of the Red Cross Blood Donor Clinics, for over 25 years in Galt. In 1993, Rose was awarded the Commemorative Medal for the 125th Anniversary of Confederation by the Governor-General for her significant contribution to her community. Rose was an avid and skilled bridge player with the same group for over 50 years. She enjoyed curling at the Galt Curling Club, both socially and competitively with Women's and Mixed groups. Above all, Rose was a loving and nurturing wife, mother and grandmother, who provided a welcoming home for her family and friends. The family will receive friends at Coutts Funeral Home, 96 St. Andrews St., Cambridge on Tuesday, March 12, 2013, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., for Memorial Visitation. Cremation has taken place.
