  BRANCHTON Mr. Wm. Smith, one of the oldest residents in these parts, passed away at his residence, on the Branchton Road, on Monday evening, at the advanced age of 93 years. He was a native of Tyrone, Ireland and emigrated to Canada in 1869, settling in Galt and worked his trade as a weaver, for about 3 years, after which he removed to the Township of Morrington and lived there for three years more, moving back and settling on the farm now owned by Alex McColl, near Branchton, where he has resided ever since. The old gentleman has always been strong and hearty until about five years ago and felt very badly when he was not permitted to do the chores. The interment took place on Wednesday, to Mount View Cemetery, Galt and was one of the largest funerals that has passsed through Galt, in a long time. The Weekly Reformer 6 Jan 1893 pg 5
