- MRS. WILLIAM HARDY
Mrs. Hardy, one of the oldest residents of Branchton, died on Friday morning of last week, after a protracted illness. Over a year ago she had an attack of paralysis and la grippe from the effects of which she did not recover. The deceased, whose maiden name was Elizabeth McDonald, was born on 31st March, 1834, in Aberdeenshire, near Peterhead, Scotland and was married to William Hardy' of the same Shire, at the age of eighteen. They came to Canada in the spring of 1855 in a sailing vessel, the voyage lasting six weeks. They resided in the vicinity of St. Catharines for a short time, but finally settled in the neighborhood of Branchton, about the year 1856. Mr. Hardy was accidentally killed in a saw mill about 25 years ago. The deceased was highly respected and leaves a family of six children, four sons and two daughters: William, who resides at Lethbridge, N. W. T.; John, in Chicago ; Eliza (Mrs. Beemer), St. George; Christen, (Mrs. Keyes), St.Catharines; James, Grand Rapids and Robert in Galt. The funeral took place on Monday, to Mount View Cemetery and was very largely attended by her large circle of friends and relatives.
