Fearfully Sudden Death
We were very much pained on Wednesday morning to learn of the very sudden death of Mr. John Linton, residing on George street in this town. Mr. Linton had been, we believe, apparently quite well in the morning, and pursued his usual avocation. About the middle of the forenoon, he took his saw and began cutting some wood. While sawing a stick he was observed by a friend to fall over, and the alarm being given, Mr. R. Blain and others went to his assistance. They found him quite unconscious, if not the dead. Medical aid was quickly obtained, but was of no avail, the doctor pronouncing his dead on his arrival. A short time ago, under the pressure of a sudden shock, occasioned by an accident to his son, the old gentleman fainted, it was then supposed. He quickly recovered, but that undoubtedly was the foreshadowing of the death which has now come to him. Mr. Linton was long a resident of Waterloo, near New Aberdeen, where he carried on farming until, having achieved a competence, he decided to remove to Galt, about four years ago, to spend the remainder of his days. He was a quiet, very worthy man, and was deservedly much respected by his many friends. Since he removed to Galt Mr. Linton had done much to improve the part of the town in which he resided, having erected some six or seven cottages within the past three years. Mr. Linton was for a great number of years an elder of Knox church, Ayr, and was undoubtedly in all the walks of life, an earnest Christian man.
