  • Notes 
    • Mathias Stricker, who died last Thursday in Waterloo, was 93 years old. He was born in Laufen, Württemberg and came to Waterloo County in 1832. Four years later, he married Elisabeth Baumann, and the couple settled near St. Jacobs. He was a farmer and a shoemaker at the same time, and often picked up the leather for his hand-work on foot, in Dundas. In 1874, he moved to Waterloo, where he has lived ever since. He is survived by only one daughter, Mrs. M. Anthes, as well as eight grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. The deceased was one of the first members of the Evangelical Congregation in Canada.
