      After a brief illness at the Hamilton General Hospital, on Monday, December 1, 1997, at the age of 71 years. Jerry Byrne of Cambridge, formerly of Bell Island, predeceased by his wife the former Alice Peddle. Dear father of Marian and Ron Carew of Cambridge, Geraldine Kent and husband Gary of Dartmouth, N.S., Neil and Yvette Belodeau, Jim and wife Shelly, Christine Moore and husband Rod, Jerry and wife Nancy all of Cambridge, Georgina Pollock and husband Bill of Woodstock, Donny, Barry and Bonnie Whalen, Keith and Kathy Mills all of Cambridge. Survived by twelve grandchildren, sisters; Mary Galway and husband Leo of Toronto, Ann Mercer, Veronica (Babe) Ezekiel and Genevieve Byrne all of Cambridge and a brother; John of Cambridge and friend Mary Hayward. Predeceased by a brother, Ned. Jerry was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Galt Council 2184 and the Fourth Degree, Fr. Vincent Shea Assembly #2168. Member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Bell Island and Galt, a Major in the Royal Canadian Army Cadets and ran the Cadet program at St. Kevin's School, Bell Island. An employee of Dosco Mines, Bell Island, Nfld., until the mines closure in 1966 and latterly was employed for many years as a crossing guard at Glamis and Northview Heights. Jerry was a faithful parishioner of St. Ambrose RC Church and served as Eucharistic Minister and Usher. Friends will be received at LITTLE'S FUNERAL HOME, 223 Main Street East, Cambridge, (tonight) Tuesday, from 7 - 9 p.m. and Wednesday, 2 - 4 & 7 - 9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial, will be celebrated at St. Ambrose RC Church, Chalmers Street South, on Thursday, December 4, 1997, at 11 a.m. The Rosary will be recited at the Funeral Home, Wednesday, 8:30 p.m. Interment, Mount View Cemetery.
